What do you get when you combine Italian cooking and Southern flare? Luckily for Memphians, really good food. Though just a few years old, Hog & Hominy, a cool eatery in East Memphis, Tennessee, has already received many noteworthy awards for their inventive cuisine. Among the accolades, GQ named H&H one of the most outstanding restaurants of 2013, while Conde Nast Traveler placed it among The Best New Restaurants in the American South.
The menu emphasizes this unique Italian-Southern fusion with offerings ranging from Quattro Formaggi to Peanut Butter Pie. Perhaps the most representative dish of this bi-cultural cuisine marriage is the Biscuit Gnocchi—a delicious medley of gnocchi made from buttermilk biscuit dough, hambone broth, field peas, spinach, tomato, and ham. The restaurant boasts a backyard bar (with drink specials during happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m.) and one of the best Bocce courts in Memphis.
