No-Smoke Campfire Cookies

This delicious recipe for Graham Cracker S’mores Cookies puts a sweet twist on the traditional campfire treat. Graham crackers, the base of this dessert, line a baking sheet, then scoops of homemade chocolate chip marshmallow cookie dough top the crackers. After the cookies bake in the oven for a bit, Hershey’s chocolate squares (logo up) are sprinkled on top before baking a little longer. You can enjoy these beautiful golden brown s’mores cookies any time of the year—and without smelling like a campfire! Photo Source: The Girl [... more]

We Want Samoas!

With Girl Scout Cookie season in full swing, you no doubt have lent your support to your local GS troops. We sure have! But what will you do once the cookies are gone? Make them at home, of course. The from-scratch version of the crowd-favorite Samoas features the same tasty trio of ingredients as the real cookie: chocolate, caramel, and coconut. While the recipe takes a couple hours of prep time (including chilling), you’ll find the end result well worth the effort.

Monkey Bread Impersonator

The gluten-free lifestyle is one of the fastest growing “trends” in the food industry. Because gluten is found in wheat, gluten-free people assume they must avoid homemade bread, but this recipe for Gluten Free Chocolate Pull-Apart Bread proves that’s not the case. The base of this sweet treat consists of traditional gluten-free bread flour, while the filling combines butter, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate. This prepared loaf looks an awful lot like what many of us know as Monkey Bread. If you serve it to your family and [... more]

Hot Chocolate Two-Step

Stirring a stick of chocolate into a mug of hot milk is a magical dance that I call the Hot Chocolate Two-Step. It’s fast and easy. So during these last remaining cold weeks, be sure to have a batch of Hot Chocolate-on-a-Stick on hand for when you crave hot chocolate. To prepare, simply melt together dark chocolate, milk chocolate, honey, and vanilla; then pour the mixture into an ice cube tray. Place a popsicle stick into the center of each mold of yummy melted chocolate and allow [... more]

Southern Creation

There are few things I enjoy more than bourbon and chocolate. Scott Witherow, owner of Nashville’s Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Co., combines the two for a decadent Bourbon Nib Brittle that is to die for. And for any true chocolate connoisseur, there’s no greater thrill than watching a chocolatier perfect his craft. Lucky for locals and those just passing through, Tennessee’s favorite artisan chocolate brand just debuted its new storefront and factory in East Nashville (open for tours Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the hour). Skinny Muffins

For my daughter’s wedding, I wanted a delicious, easy recipe to serve to the wedding party at the church that morning. It had to be healthy because we all know how brides and their maids are about carbs and such! Then I stumbled upon this recipe for Skinny Raspberry Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins, and according to the girls, it was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. My daughter, the health nut, even ate more than two because—with whole wheat flour, greek yogurt, almond milk, and fresh [... more]

OMG Oranges

When I saw the photo of these Salted Chocolate Dipped Mandarin Slices, I said out loud, “Oh, my goodness, I want this right now!” Mandarin orange slices dipped into melted dark chocolate and then sprinkled with sea salt can make a gal weak in the knees. Of course, the weakness might also come from the fact that you only need three simple ingredients and a few minutes to prepare this decadent treat. Note: To make yours look as elegant as the ones in the photo, patiently wait [... more]

Quiet Your Craving

Chocolate + Baileys = happy hour, and happy me! This Chocolate Baileys Mud Cake recipe is my answer to that universal craving that we all have experienced…chocolate. How strong is this craving? I’m glad you asked! The week before my daughter walked down the aisle and became a wife, all of the wedding favors were stored in our refrigerator, wrapped in little pink and tangerine wrappers. All of a sudden, this craving hit me. I couldn’t find a bite of chocolate anywhere in the house except for—yes—oh, yes—you guessed [... more]

S’More Uses for Cast Iron

If your mother or grandmother passed a cast-iron skillet down to you, then you’re a lucky duck. Every time I pull my hand-me-down skillet out, I feel as if I am cooking with a piece of history. Nothing says “Southern” more than cobbler or cornbread cooked in a cast-iron vessel, but for a contemporary twist on tradition try Indoor S’mores: melted chocolate in the bottom of a cast-iron skillet with gooey marshmallows smothered on top and served with graham crackers. Cast iron conducts heat very slowly and [... more]
